I came across this set of bear tracks while skiing this morning up at Camel’s Hump Nordic (yup, there’s still a lot of snow up there!) I’m pretty sure I was looking at more than one bear walking in the same set of tracks—perhaps a mother and cubs?
Here’s a close up with my glove for scale. Big animal!

That was a BIG bear! Would have been fun to see hin/her in person.
Your photos continue to whet my love for naturek, even though I can’t get out much while recovering from a broken hip. Be well! Also, please use my new email address: jhvn14 @gmail.com Thanks!

Thanks John–happy to whet your appetite! I added your new email address to the mailing list, but your old one is apparently still on it. I’m not sure I have a way to remove it. At the bottom of the email there should be an “unsubscribe” link that you can use to remove your old address…
Hope this helps! Heal fast!
Cheers,
John

John, I don’t know much about bears but considering the size of the paw I’d not want to be messing with it.

Hi Tim,
We only have black bears here in Vermont. As a species they’re fairly harmless to humans preferring to amble away in our presence. I got to admit though, that I was taking a good long look down the hill where those tracks were headed to make sure I didn’t see the actual critter. The tracks were quite fresh!

Caution seems to be the best policy.
