Composed

A simple composition

While skiing yesterday, my eye was caught by the simplicity of this composition. Twigs, branches, snow…

Iced

Elm buds encapsulated in ice

The recent freezing rains (ugh) left a little magic behind in the form of a layer of ice on branches and twigs. These elm buds have a pretty thick coat!

A fine view of Camel’s Hump from the porch of the Stark’s Nest at Mad River Glen

Yesterday’s bluebird conditions made for a lovely portrait of Camel’s Hump from the porch of the Stark’s Nest at the top of Mad River Glen’s Single Chair.

A solitary beech leaf beneath a drift’s curl

Out skiing in the backcountry today, I came across this beech leaf beneath the curl of a new snowdrift.

Frosted

Moist air from open water combine with below zero temperatures to create fine frost crystals on dried ferns along Fargo Brook.

Earning your turns

Two skiers decend at Mad River Glen

Having earned their turns, two skiers head down the mountain past the still Single Chair at Mad River Glen yesterday. It was a busy day on the mountain with quite a few people putting on their climbing skins to make the trek to the summit of General Stark Mountain. And it was well worth the effort!

Broken 6″ thick ice slabs along the Huntington River

The recent heavy rains kicked up many big blocks of ice along the Huntington River. I took a walk along the banks at the Audubon Nature Center here in Huntington yesterday. This is a close-up of a broken 6″ thick slab. I like the air bubbles trapped in the ice.

In the woods

A little experimentation with motion blur in the Audubon Nature Center woods this morning…
