Fargo Brook is about as low as I’ve ever seen it in the 30 years we’ve lived here—down to a wee trickle in places but managing to flow. The still water in side pools allows for some interesting “diving” into layers of water, leaves, and reflections.
Fall foliage is at peak right now around Camel’s Hump. This view from Bald Hill takes in a broad expanse of the mountain’s western slope and ridgeline including Wind Gap on the right.

The fall foliage is creeping towards peak here in Huntington. The colors make a fine backdrop for blooming Jerusalem artichoke along the Main Road in Huntington Center.

Key Deer are unique to the Big Pine Key region in the lower Florida Keys. This subspecies of White Tailed deer is quite small—bucks weigh in at only 55-75lbs—and were hunted to near exinction by the 1950s. We went to the National Key Deer Refuge on Big Pine Key. The young buck grooming himself was none-to-shy as I snapped a bunch of shots from about 20 yards away. The closeup doe was right by the side of the road and seemed content to pose for the glamor shot.

Spring may be reluctant in Vermont, but in Virginia, the dogwood is blooming nicely!
Now that there’s finally some snow on the ground, the opportunities for a little abstraction are more abundant. We walked up to a nearby beaver pond yesterday afternoon. The shadows of the surrounding forest fell across the flat, snow covered ice creating an abstract field of line and light.

Heavy rains on Sunday filled Fargo Brook with muddy, café au last colored water. Here’s a brief study of flowing water at slow-ish shutter speeds (Panasonic Lumix GM5, Lumix 14-140mm lens at various lengths, ISO 200, various apertures, 1/15″ exposures.)
2.5″ of new snow might not seem like a lot, but beggars can’t be choosers. A nearby hay meadow offered just enough coverage and pitch to make for a fun morning of earning turns!
