Summer memory

hydrangea-snow
A piece of dried hydrangea on fresh snow

A bit of a summer memory—this piece of dried hydrangea had been broken off by the weekend’s strong winds to cast its shadow on the fresh snow.

Fresh Tracks

2.5″ of new snow might not seem like a lot, but beggars can’t be choosers. A nearby hay meadow offered just enough coverage and pitch to make for a fun morning of earning turns!

Barbed

While walking in the woods above Fargo Brook the other day, I came across quite a bit of this unusual flat-twisted barbed wire. I hadn’t come across it before.

Encasing

Oak leaves becoming encased in mineral deposits at Saratoga Springs

We spent the Thanksgiving weekend with family in Saratoga Springs. While exploring the State Park, I came across these oak leaved as they were slowly being coated and encased by mineral deposits flowing out of one of the springs.

Dangling

Built up ice dangles from a twig above Fargo Brook

Cold temperature make for interesting ice formation. This pendulous pod of ice had built up on a twig just above the moving surface of Fargo Brook.

Waiting for the wind

In this closer look at the milkweed pod I posted the other day, the silk bedecked seeds seem to be peeking out of their pod in anticipation of wind disbursing them.

Never sleeps…

Moneywort and rusting metal…

In honor of Neil Young’s birthday (and my own!) I thought I’d entitle this photo appropriately… Moneywort fringing to the ginge on rusting metal along Fargo Brook.

Bursting

I’ve always been somewhat captivated by milkweed. From its tight buds in spring, to its cluster of intricate flowers in summer, to its pods busting in fall, it’s an interesting and important native plant. Its importance as a food source for Monarch butterflies is well known. This pod in our front field was in its final stage spilling its seeds to the wind.
