Dazey

Shasta daisies at the pond's edge
Shasta daisies at the pond’s edge

We have several clumps of Shasta daisies blooming around the pond. The reflection of trees in the water makes them seem to float in space.

More rain…

And a little more rain in Fargo Brook
And a little more rain in Fargo Brook

Another inch or two of rain and Fargo Brook jumps its banks. Standing on the bridge taking this shot was an interesting experience…

High and muddy

We’ve gotten over 2.5″ of rain in the past 36 hours and Fargo Brook is running high and muddy.

Bearded Iris

The bearded irises are blooming in several spots around our place. A morning rain bespeckled this bloom as it wafted its grape-like scent in the air.

Beaded

Lady’s Mantle leaves have an interesting ability to allow raindrops to bead along the serrated edges of their leaves. I take at least one shot like this every season and never grow tired of it!

Poppy Tongue

I take a picture like this almost every year as I can’t resist the humor of a poppy blossom seemingly sticking its tongue out at me. A tiny ant is along for the ride.

The ruby-throated hummingbirds are back! This little fellow was buzzing around our back deck where the Manchu cherry bush is in full bloom. He paused ever so briefly on a branch displaying is stunning throat feathers.

I spent some time stalking this song sparrow yesterday morning as he hopped about in the sumac in part of our front field. He didn’t seem too bothered by my presence, allowing me to get in fairly close as he hopped from branch to branch pausing to loose is lovely song.
