Barbed

Unusual barbed wire in the woods above Fargo Brook

While walking in the woods above Fargo Brook the other day, I came across quite a bit of this unusual flat-twisted barbed wire. I hadn’t come across it before.

Encasing

Oak leaves becoming encased in mineral deposits at Saratoga Springs

We spent the Thanksgiving weekend with family in Saratoga Springs. While exploring the State Park, I came across these oak leaved as they were slowly being coated and encased by mineral deposits flowing out of one of the springs.

Dangling

Built up ice dangles from a twig above Fargo Brook

Cold temperature make for interesting ice formation. This pendulous pod of ice had built up on a twig just above the moving surface of Fargo Brook.

The bearded irises are blooming in several spots around our place. A morning rain bespeckled this bloom as it wafted its grape-like scent in the air.

The ruby-throated hummingbirds are back! This little fellow was buzzing around our back deck where the Manchu cherry bush is in full bloom. He paused ever so briefly on a branch displaying is stunning throat feathers.

Robin & I enjoyed a fine day of skiing up at Craftsbury Outdoor Center yesterday. The ample sunshine and soft spring conditions made for wonderful skiing. I’m always stuck, when traveling through the Northeast Kingdom, how different the landscape is from our neck of the woods here in Huntington.

The snow is retreating, and a pair of metal cranes emerge to bask in the warm late-March sunshine.
